Black Sails For Red Seas : Wave II (Review)

This is the second EP for the Montreal band and I just loved it from the start to the end. They have a sound that is post death metal with a gaze feel and some sludge on top of that. All four songs are instrumental and they always bring something new in through the EP.

They have intense guitars, the melodies are kept simple, they just bring some emotions out. The screaming guitar on Palisades with a bit of echo is present to give you shivers, very good solo on To The Lions. The rhythm guitar has some heavy chords and combined with the bass, they have amazing riffs that have to be played loud. Silfra is a good song to hear the different guitar styles and appreciate the changing speeds. The drum is powerful and never goes into crazy passes, it focuses on the weight it wants to bring in the songs.

The music is inspiring, all the instruments come out very well and you can appreciate the gaze feeling they want to give, with the simplicity and the heaviness of the instruments. The songs have to be played real loud to be absorbed by the universes they have crafted on this EP. Go listen to the songs and just enjoy the music. It is available through the Montreal label Deathbound Records. Facebook Bandcamp
