Phylactery : Necromancy Enthroned  (Review)

The band from Edmonton will release this album July 18th and I got the chance to hear it. They are amazing in their style. Old school thrash with a mix of death metal. This is the first album of Phylactery after a demo that came out in 2016, 11 songs of insane beats and great riffs. The first impression was to say that it sounds like Kill Em All of Metallica or Scream Bloody Gore of Death That would be the easy thing to say, but they also reminded me of a more recent band that are thrash for sure and it's Mutank from Montreal, if you like the style I would definitely recommend this band. The drumming of K.T. is amazing it is heavy and innovative and it has some melodies attached to the beat. Since K.T. is also the singer I'm impressed that he can do both and play that fast.

The riffs of T.G. are good, he brings forth the melody and the rhythm, he never falls in crazy solos instead he brings an element of speed and has some screaming sounds to connect the different riffs he has. J.M. on the bass has some nice lines and he keeps the speed flowing when the guitar is busy with the melodies, he adds a lot of weight to the songs. All the instruments come out nicely. This is a very fast and heavy album, I feel that all the songs flow together, there's a continuity running through the album they never let go and they keep beating their riffs to make sure you never get a break. If I have to pick a song I would say that Enslaved by The Dawn is the one that stands out for me. The lyrics are very dark and evil and it fits perfectly with the style they chose. Necromancy Enthroned is a good first album for the three guys of Edmonton. Mixing thrash and Death metal and bringing back the sounds that created the genres. The cover art for the album by artist Paolo Girardi, adds to the ideas that the band has. For fans of the heavy thrash and brutal Death metal this is a great one to add to your collection. Coming out July 18th on Unspeakable Axe Records. Facebook
