The Count Ferrara : Bloody Feast (Review)

the latest album for the grunge psychedelic band from Montreal, The Count Ferrara. The Count is back and brings us back to the yesteryear of music.

This time the music feels a bit happier than the previous album and it's a good twist. The band uses tons of different sonority. The mix of distortion and regular guitar with a bit of effects reminds me of the 90's bands of the grunge era, with a touch of folk music, i think of Grant Lee Buffalo, when i try to find a comparison. Smashing pumpkins could also be a good band that has a similar versatility. But it doesn't end there they have solos that are similar to the surf guitar from the 60's, they also take from the garage and the psychedelic bands as well. All together is a good mix and it's fun.

The band is very talented, to come up with that music and with a great sound. The drum's snare sounds like the 80's post-punk bands, the bass connects with the guitars to smooth the sounds and add a bit of weight. The Count's voice is a mix of Kurt Cobain, screams, Johnny Rotten deformation of words, the narrative of Harley Poe and the echo effect on the microphone. It sounds so good to me that i would like it to be a bit louder, I missed out some of the words, trying to get the stories, but it's no big deal gives me a reason to listen to the songs again.

The Count Ferrara has a good album with Bloody Feast, with tons of references to other music genre and it's a very good blend of styles, it all gets together and you never hear anything out of place. Check it out and see if you can spot another genre that i would have missed, but most of all just listen and have fun, because it is.
