Interview with Napalm Ted

Rezine: who plays in Napalm Ted?

Napalm Ted: Our power trio comes from Oulu, Finland and we are: Gravy Ted (guitar/vocals), Ted Nugget (bass) and Tendinitus (drums/vocals).

Rezine: How did it all start?

Napalm Ted: In the beginning of 2015 I dug out one fast grindcore song from my diskette vault and thought it would be nice to finally make it alive with real instruments. I demoed the drums on my other band's recording session and asked my buddy from yet another band to record guitars for it. The track came out so brutal and mean that we started to make more songs and had a cassette demo worth of material in a couple of months. After the inconclusive hunt for a vocalist we came to the conclusion that we should do it ourselves. Ted Nugget came to the team just after we had done the first demo "Swallow" in the summer of 2015.

Rezine: How did you come up with the name Napalm Ted?

Napalm Ted: Right after the first song Gravy Ted brought in a rather Napalm Deathish demo tune entitled "Napalm Ted" and that was it.

Rezine: What influences the lyrics of your songs?

Napalm Ted: On my behalf it's been horrors and disasters brought by human nature and also incidents of everyday life. Our friend Jari-Pekka "Jarru" Kanniainen still writes most of the lyrics for us and here's his view on the topic: "The lyrics I write for Ted are mostly influenced by my observations from society, especially the more corrupted phenomena I come across. I have also used some lyrics to deal with human relation to nature and animals, and to itself. Writing lyrics, even brutal ones, are a relaxing way to handle dark matters and shadows of our everyday lives and humanity in general."

Rezine: How do you describe the music of Napalm Ted?

Napalm Ted: Simple but fast. One review summed it up like this: "It's a slap in the face with a shovel that has been used to dig up hobo bodies".

Rezine: What's coming up with Napalm Ted?

Napalm Ted: We just released a 4-song 7" split with local crust/bm/sludge trio Mustasuo. But we have already 3-4 new songs cooking up and recordings might happen pretty soon. We did also a fifth song for the split that didn't fit and it will be released online during December. Looking also forward to do some gigs around Finland and maybe abroad too.

Rezine: Do you have other projects?

Napalm Ted: I have few other bands that are rarely active like Joint Depression and K+K-tactics who play way different stuff than Napalm Ted. This is the only full-on band right now and we have a good boogie going on!
