Interview with Autarch
Rezine: What is the story of Autarch?
Autarch: We've been a band since 2010. We're from Asheville, North Carolina in the United States. The lineup has changed quite a few times in the intervening years. We put out a demo cd in 2012, an LP in 2014, and a split LP with Soothsayer this year, and have toured the eastern US multiple times.
Rezine: What inspires you?
Autarch: Musically we are inspired by a lot of different genres. Anything from European melodic crust from the early 2000s and 90s screamo/emotional hardcore on one hand, to on the heavier side some of us are also into a lot of post-metal or black metal. We are also inspired by the earth and the cosmos in its infinite chaos and beauty.
Rezine: What influences the lyrics of your songs?
Autarch: Our lyrics are heavily inspired by sci-fi literature and film and also by our friends and family keeping up the fight against systemic and individual bigotry and oppression, capitalist destruction of the natural world and disregard for our own ecosystem, and state violence.
Rezine: What are the latest new for the band?
Autarch: We just put out a split LP with our friends Soothsayer from Pittsburgh, PA, which is available now on Replenish Records and Reality is a Cult Records as well as directly from the bands.
Rezine: What's coming up?
Autarch: We're finishing up recording songs for another split LP, this time with Landbridge from Tampa, FL. We are also touring the west coast of the U.S. in August, including a few dates in Mexico and Canada.
Rezine: Do you guys have other projects?
Autarch: We each have many other projects: Jason and Chad are in a black metal band called Shadow of the Destroyer, Jason also plays in an epic metallic crust band called Uninhabitable, and James plays in a d-beat band called Poor Excuse.
