Interview with Hopeless Youth

Rezine: what's new with Hopeless Youth?

Hopeless Youth: Just got back from tour. New Ep just came out 3 weeks ago. In Midst of booking other shows/tours.

Rezine: You have a new album out how do you describe it?

HY: The new album is a blend between Disgust and our self-titled ep. We wanted to blend a bunch of styles and see what came out.

Rezine: How do you compare it to the previous album?

HY: A little bit more punk then the full length and way better songs.

Rezine: What influenced the music for this album?

HY: Half the guys leaving definitely had an impact on the sound. Angelo, who is our current drummer, is more metal then our last drummer. Alex, our bassist, comes from an experimental background. We also listen to different styles of music but all share a common ground.

Rezine: What inspired the lyrics of the songs?

HY: The concept behind the lyrics is mostly about the psychological tensions brought by inner struggles and transitions between one's past, present and future worded in an occult fashion.

Rezine: Was it a long process to come with the final result?

HY: It took us about 3 weeks to write the album. We had a lot of things we wanted to get off our chest and get out. It too a year for us to put it out. We started our own label (Rainville Records) and wanted to make sure everything came out right. We also had help from Brian at Pluto Records to release the digital version.

Rezine: Do you have songs that didn't make it in the album that we might hear later?

HY: There are some songs that never made it to recording. There are already a couple riffs that we want to use in the future, but we'd break down the songs and rewrite them completely.

Rezine: What's coming up for Hopeless Youth?

HY: More shows, more parties, more good times.
