Interview with Bréag Naofa
Rezine: Who plays in the band?
Roger, Sam and Tre play guitar. Dustin plays bass. Rob on vocals. And bobby on drums.
Rezine: what's the meaning of the name Bréag Naofa?
Breag Naofa is an old Irish Gaelic word that just means "holy lie." The band is comprised of atheists who grew up in very religious families or areas, and our philosophy is that religion poisons everything.
Rezine: how did the band starts?
The band started as other bands we were in began to stagnate, and some of us had wanted to start a slower music project as well as have an anti-theistic stand point
Rezine: What are your musical influences?
We love bands like fall of efrafa, light bearer, cult of Luna, Isis, year of no light, monuments collapse, Giant, for post metal vibes. But also draw from crust punk/metal, d-beat bands, and I've actually had a riff idea given to me via the foo fighters before haha
Rezine: What inspires the lyrics of your songs?
The lyrics can be quite cryptic at times, and sometimes tell a story, but always with the idea of showing the harm that religion has caused to humanity over the millennia.
Rezine: What's coming up with Bréag Naofa ?
We are recording 6 new songs in the summer. Two will actually be on an e.p. That are basically a part 1 and part 2 of the same type of song. The other 4 will be new material for a full length. We experimented with lower tuning, more repetition with layering, and minimalist riffs for these songs.
Rezine: Do you have other projects?
Roger plays in the hardcore band Trial and has been in other previous hardcore bands. Bobby (drums) has been in a few local projects including one called this time tomorrow. Sam (guitar) has been in some crust projects Tre just loves breag Naofa and his dog Rob used to be in bands with me (Roger) And Dustin is in a pretty active band called A God Or Another which has a more black metal vibe.
