Rezine: How do you describe Ancst?

Torsten: Two guys starting out recording aggressive and loud music in a bedroom, releasing this songs on several tapes, CD's, LP's and ending up as a 5-piece-live band playing shows and festivals all over Europe and the United Kingdom.

Rezine: What's coming up for the band?

Torsten: We're about to release our very first full-length album on vinyl and CD via Vendetta Records, Halo of Flies and Yehonala Tapes on April 15th. We'll play a record release show on that day, too, with our friends in Thränenkind, a post metal band on Lifeforce Records. They'll join us on our following trip over Europe from May 13th until the 28th. After that we'll play a couple of festivals over the summer and some weekenders in late 2016. All of us are quite busy with life and other musical projects besides Ancst. No chance for anything like boredom, you know?

Rezine: What's the new album about?

Torsten: Politics, man, politics.

Rezine: What inspired the lyrics for the album?

Torsten: The lyrical content ranges from abstract descriptions of existence to songs, which are lyrically more political.

That catchphrase stuff, you know? Some of this just needs to be said in the clearest most possible way, while other perspectives were supposed to be held cryptically. However I strongly recommend taking a look on the text sheet to get a notion, what intentions and ideas are behind each song.

Rezine: Was it a long process to come out with that new album?

Torsten: Kind of. It took us two years. Being in no rush seems to be something like our work ethic, when it comes to recording. Besides that, we started being a live band in 2014 and playing shows.

Rezine: Do you have any songs that were left out that we might hear later?

Torsten: Nope. But we do have a couple of unused instrumentals, which might find their way to completion in the future.

Rezine: Do you have a favourite song that you are excited to play live and why?

Torsten: Good question. I think I like our opener “Devouring Glass”, I like “In Decline” and “Moloch”, the title track of our upcoming LP. All songs are off our new record. They're the most energetic and brutal pieces of music we've created so far. As is the whole record. We're planning to add some other songs, too. But I’m basically very comfortable with the songs we're playing live.
