Interview with L'Obscurité

Rezine: Who is playing what in L'obscurité?

Rickard: Tess Törner: Guitar, Vocals. Fredrik Berglund: Drums, Daniel Östborg: Bass. Rickard Folke: Guitar, Synthesizers, Vocals.

Rezine: What made you choose that name for the band?

Rickard: We wanted something dark so we typed in "Darkness" in Google Translate and fell for French. I don't think anyone can pronounce it right though, but it fits us.

Rezine: what motivated you to put the band together?

Rickard: I and Tess met each other on every single gig in town, Tess thought I was annoying, but we had the same taste in music, especially Lost Sounds, we both wanted to something like that, and dark, noisy and dirty stuff. So we decided to try play together, and it worked, now I think she likes me, but still thinks I’m annoying.

Rezine: What are your influences?

Rickard: I guess the influences are pretty wide, we all come from different musical backgrounds, and we have all playing in hardcore, punk, shoegaze-bands and such things. I really like 80's New/Cold/Dark Wave like Trisomy 21, Joy Division, Lebanon Hanover, Fad Gadget and 90's stuff like Sonic Youth, Loop etc. and of course Lost Sounds and The Screamers. But everyone has their own influences I guess.

Rezine: What inspires your lyrics?

Rickard: Both me and Tess writes the lyrics and i guess it's about rights and wrongs, memories, things that happens around us, dreams, love, the classic things.. People think we are a political band because we sing about feminism, human rights, veganism and such things, but I wouldn’t say that we are a political band, we just write songs that feels right.

Rezine: Is there a theme to your latest S/T?

Rickard: No, I don't think so. White/Offended is about the offended men here in Sweden, especially a racist political party and their followers. Dandelion Child is about Tess childhood and Let's Get Sick is about my girlfriend and cats. So it's quite different stuff.

Rezine: Are there new songs coming out soon?

Rickard: We have some demos that we will try to record whenever we have time.

Rezine: What's coming up with L'obscurité in a near future?

Rickard: Everyone else has a lot of other bands so we are just trying to find gaps in the calendar to record some new songs, shoot a video, play some gigs. No big plans for now.

Rezine: Any plan to tour over here in Canada?

Rickard: We would love to come to Canada, Fredrik toured with his other band (The Scrags) in Canada last year and he loved it. We all have regular jobs so it's hard to find gaps when all four can go outside Sweden. But you never know.
