Interview with Offside

Rézine: Who's who in the band?

Simon - Vocals

Jaime - Guitar

Guillaume -Guitar

Adam - Bass

Drums : Scott

Rézine: How did it all start?

Scott: The band started around Dec 2014 , with me and Simon. I was playing drums for Hold A Grudge and the band broke shorlty prior to this project starting up. Our goal for the band was to bring back that old school classic hardcore sound, that lacked in Quebec even in Canada and and we felt that people were forgetting about that sound, which made us hungry for a project like Offside .

We wrote 4 songs the ( Brotherhood EP ) and all in all , it took us about a year to get our shit together , recruit members, get jam space and what not

Rézine: why call yourself offside is it related to sport or you way of thinking?

Scott: Were big into straight edge hardcore such bands as Floorpunch and Ten Yard Fight .It definitely had an impact on our approach to present the band ( with our logo , font ) . We did get the name when we were watching a hockey game and there was an offside play. Were hockey fans but not habs fanatic or anything like that. We had a long list of every name you can think of, and this one really stood out and it felt right. The name can also be said in French, which we taught was key as well. Offside, can also mean, that you might be outta line with something, or you're doing something wrong or not morally correct. In the end, it’s a term that can mean many things, but this is the way we interpreted it.

Rézine: What inspires your songs?

Scott: Grudges, betrayal, classic hardcore in general, friendship, loyalty and trust.

Rézine: You have 4 songs demo available, did it a while for you to come out with the songs?

Scott: It was Simon and me in the band for quite some time before the other members joined. It took us about 3 months to write the songs and the lyrics and record a demo template.

Rézine: Do you have more songs coming out?

Scott: For the moment no, we are gonna be pushing the demo this year, and will write new songs as we go on. There is a lot of ideas and riffs floating around, were not too worried, creative wise with that aspect. We are rehearsing our first setlist, which will be the whole EP plus 2 covers for now.

Rézine: Do you have plans to do live performance?

Scott: Yes, definitely, end of spring or early summer, no confirmations yet

Rézine: what's coming up for the band?

Scott: A string of shows, including the 7 inch Brotherhood EP launch, as soon as the pressing is completed, it could take about 2 or 3 months until we get the copies. We are working on getting the name out basically

Rézine: Do you have other projects?

Scott: So far, were working on these short term goals before talks of touring and such
